Last week I went to an art exhibit, Dempsey Bob In His Own Voice at the Kelowna Art Gallery. As I sat amongst the carvings and the images of coastal forest I wept. i wept for the ability of a human to articulate his connection to the earth so profoundly and with such creative confidence and skill.

It filled me with a new confidence in the human journey that is possible when you choose creativity. It was profound and life affirming.

A couple of days before Steve and I sat in doctor’s office receiving the results from his PET scan. They were not encouraging. So as I digested and considered what our life was going to be and what direction we can take I thought about creativity.

cre-a-tiv-i-ty (noun)

1. the state or quality of being creative
2. the ability to transcend traditional ideas rules, patterns, relationships or the like and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc; originality, progressiveness or imagination.
3. the process by which one utilizes creative ability.

I found this definition on a notebook at Staples today. Definitely a sign. The opportunity to create the life we want will be dependent upon transcending the traditional old patterns, ideas and methods. Creating and participating in authentic new ways. I like to think of it as living in the magic, listening.
